The Divine Pilgrimage

Episode II — The Uffington White Horse

The Divine Pilgrimage

On the second day of The Divine Pilgrimage,

the journey arrived at one of Britain’s most mysterious ancient landmarks:

The Uffington White Horse.

Carved directly into the hillside more than 3,000 years ago,

this vast chalk figure has watched over the landscape since the late Bronze Age.

Unlike many ancient monuments,

the White Horse is not built from stone.

It is cut directly into the earth itself —

revealed through the ancient practice of scouring,

where generations return again and again to clear the grass and renew the chalk beneath.

A living symbol in the land.

Arriving on the very day marking the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse,

the visit unfolded through a series of strange and synchronistic moments:

birds circling above the hill,

a single red rose planted in the earth,

small offerings hidden in the grass,

and a quiet act of devotion carried to the chalk itself.

What began as a walk across the hillside gradually revealed itself as a conversation between pilgrim and landscape.

This film documents the journey exactly as it happened.
